Dru Yoga

Group classes for all abilities (in-person, Otley, West Yorkshire)

'In a gentle way, you can shake the World' (Ghandi)

Dru yoga is rooted in ancient yogic wisdom, providing tools and techniques that support the physical, mental and spiritual strength and flexibility so needed to stay positive, focused and adaptable in challenging times.  It is a perfect support for anyone trying to be a positive force for good at work, within their communities, in their families and with friends, but who can get quite tired trying to do so!

Through gentle but powerful sequences, classic postures, breath and visualisation, Dru helps you slow down, listen to your body, and to your heart, and to focus on what's important. Not fixated at all on perfect body or posture, moves can be modified to all needs, and anyone can benefit.

It improves fitness, mood, emotions, sleep and helps with a range of common health conditions including high blood pressure, digestive problems, mygraines, pain, depression and anxiety.

The harder we try, and the more we give, the more prone we can be to health problems.  Dru offers a way to look after ourselves so we don't burn out.

A typical Dru Yoga class

'so warm, friendly and supportive - very positive all round' (yoga student)

Activations

A short set of lively movements to music, designed to relax into the session, warm up the body, and get the energy flowing.

Breathwork

Also known as 'pranayama' some breathing awareness and techniques are always included.  These are good for our physical and emotional health, they calm the mind and can increase vitality.

Energy Block Release (EBR)

Different to many yoga classes, EBR sequences are included to release the energy that gets stored through daily lives, in the spine, joints, muscles, and deeper.  These are flowing, and coordinate body movement with breath for a relaxed and pleasant experience.

Postures & Sequences

Most classes feature a small number of classic postures or sequences, that are used to target different body parts, emotions, and thought patterns.  Always designed to help you shift negative to positive states.

Relaxation

Dru classes are big on this part - plenty of time put aside for a guided relaxation to promote rest and healing of mind and body.

Community connection

These classes are for the community, being held as part of a low-cost programme in the local secondary school gym.  Many have been coming for sometime now, but the group always welcomes new people.
